INVITATION
A MESSAGE FROM THE CONSERVANCY CHAIRMEN
We, the Himba and Herero people of the far north-west of Namibia, invite you to visit us. Our land is bigger and more beautiful than you can imagine and our wildlife is once again becoming plentiful - like it was in the days of our grandfathers.
Our government has entrusted us – through our conservancies – to be the custodians of the wild animals and other natural resources and just as we have herders for our cattle, so we have conservancy game guards to keep our wildlife safe.
We are the owners of Conservancy Hunting Safaris - Namibia, the company that will bring you here, so you will come as our guests. The people running our company have many years experience in the safari business. This enables us to be sure you will be well looked after in every way when you are hunting so far from your homes.
In the 1980s – a time of drought, war and suffering – we lost most of our cattle and wildlife. We have worked hard since then to rebuild our herds and for many years we have protected the game so that it too will increase. It’s not always easy to live next to wild animals: some are peaceful but when you visit us ask us about lions that kill cows and goat-eating leopards. We can also tell you what it’s like to share our land with elephants . . . Wait, our fathers told us, one day, in the future, these wild animals will bring wealth to this area.
Hunting is one of the ways that this vision is coming true. Conservancy Hunting Safaris - Namibia is not an ordinary hunting company – we are its owners and our five conservancies receive all income from your safaris, in addition to the meat from all animals shot.
This means your money is helping us to manage our wildlife, and what is left over will be used to help build a good future for our children. We are a young company and not well known yet so we need your support. We look forward to meeting you.
Signed: the five chairmen.
